Graeme writes “After retirement from 33 years service in the Canadian Navy, where he achieved the rank of Commander. Graeme took up his love of woodworking as his major hobby. He completed a wood-turning course at Tools n’ Space Woodworking in 1998 and soon became involved in the commercial aspects of woodworking through part time employment at Tools n’ Space Woodworking”.
His experience in cabinetry was gained through building furniture for his own home and those of his children. Some major cabinet making projects were completed for the Commander Maritime Pacific Headquarters in 2004/2005.
Graeme assumed the position of wood-turning instructor at Tools n’ Space Woodworking in 2000 where he teaches basic beginners and intermediate level wood-turning courses.
Graeme’s wood-turning has been shown at the Gallery at Tools n’ Space Woodworking. He has entered turnings in the Saanich Fair, winning a first prize in class with a Yellow Cedar Bowl in 2004.
Most of Graeme’s turnings are made from local woods gathered through the Vancouver Island Woodworkers Guild wood recovery program. All bowls and turnings which could be used as containers for food are finished with certified food safe oils and waxes.
Graeme is a member of the Vancouver Island Woodworkers Guild and a Saanich – Group. He is an active member of Royal Colwood Golf Club.
